I spent the last fifteen minutes going through Buffy screencaps looking for a few particular images. I paged through thousands of thumbnails from various seasons, and it really hit me how much everyone used to smile on Buffy. I was paging through some really rough episodes (like What's My Line 1+2) and they were still smiling! And standing close together! And hugging! And acting like friends! I tell you, it really makes me miss the days when, as [livejournal.com profile] ryca says "the episodes ending with everyone walking off to go get ice cream with their arms over each other's shoulders to happy upbeat rock music." Once upon a time, I swear, these characters hung out together. And joked. And laughed. Really.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] m_shell and I have been talking about getting together a regular fannish Night of Hanging Out in addition to Buffy Night. Being "in fandom" not required, just the right mindset. Because Buffy Night is fun an' all, but we can't watch Fight the Future or Bad Blood (XF), Rev 6:8 and Comes a Horseman (HL), Babylon squared and WWE1+2 all in a row (B5, the Eps That Melt Your Brain), or HCL, or Sorority Boys, or all the stuff I've never seen (Mag7, Eroica, etc), or Probe, or even Buffy's Nightmares, Fear Itself, and Restless. And even if we could convince people to watch them, we couldn't then talk about The Quickening: What Does it Mean? or Aliens on the X-Files: The Fuck? or The Progression of Fear on Buffy: What Does it Mean That The Fear Xander Defeats in "Nightmares" Doesn't Recur on the Show? I mean, we can't get all snarky and debatey and critique right and left and puzzle out contradictions in canon an' all that.

So. Vaguely Fannish-Related Night for those in the SC Area. Anyone interested? What night should it be? Weekly or every other week? Where? At our (incredibly messy) place? Or somewhere with a real DVD player? [livejournal.com profile] antigone921, [livejournal.com profile] sineala, [livejournal.com profile] mlechan, and others (hey [livejournal.com profile] ryca, you interested?), let us know! We'll make cookies and garlic bread as appropriate.

Personally, I'm sick of all this carving-of-mystic-sigils on people. Okay, I get that blood is all symbolic, and it's a sign that the ritual in question is evil and blah blah blah, plus it's an excuse to take Spike's shirt off (he's becoming like William Shatner in TOS; any excuse for toplessness happily capitalized on by writers). But it's all -- well, bloody. It's been overdone, and while I think Spike hurts pretty, I'm over it.

I think it would be much more fun to do your standard Mystic Sigils in chocolate body paint. Or even honey (which has the added benefit of being more liquid, thus allowing you to include the standard convention of "stay perfectly still"). Or watercolors or something. A nice Seurat-style set of Mystic Sigils would be tons of fun.

Buffy. I didn't want to slap anyone nearly as much.

Also occurred to me today. What I would love to see on Buffy this season:

Buffy and company take Spike to a therapist, who realizes he's having massive guilt reactions and hearing voices. He sometimes hears Buffy's voice when she's not really there, Spike says, and he can't tell the difference. Said therapist prescribes meds for Spike.

Spike, then, begins to get better, and he can tell the difference between Buffy's voice and not-Buffy's voice. He knows that there is a voice telling him things Buffy would never tell him; he knows that something wants him to do unpleasant things, but that it is not him and is not Buffy.

The meds work because his susceptibility to the Big Bad was partly due to his soul making him crazy-guilty. I take this from Willow and Buffy's easy acceptance that the Big Bad was not telling the truth, but trying to get inside of them and push their buttons.

Honestly, I just want to see a vamp on meds. Would rock my world.

That is all.

I just did a quick read of [livejournal.com profile] m_shell's Dawn/Chloe story. She's hoping to post it tonight so as to at least post before being Jossed, even if it won't last.

It's so cute! Adorable femmeslash. I'm hoping she'll post it to ClarkLexFic and the Smallville Slash Archive since, you know, my girl's finally writing in a fandom that actually has a central archive. (I'm impressed by her determination, because I've never been able to get into a fandom that is based around ff.n. The pop-ups, the interface, the formatting -- oy. It all drives me crazy.)

[livejournal.com profile] m_shell and I have decided that someone needs to do for the endless mushy Buffy/Spike songvids and for BtVS fandom what [livejournal.com profile] sineala did for the X-files with "Sorry."

I want irony. I want someone to notice how dysfunctional their relationship is. I want the same "sexy-Spuffy" shots in a new context.

I want a Buffy/Spike songvid to the Headstones' "Cemetery."

I got a gal who lives on the wrong side of town
I know what I like and man you know I sure know how
It's the other side, another place
I like it here, no accounting for taste
I can't think of nothing when I'm with her
But the wind and the rain and the cemetery dirt

Went down to the cemetery looking for love
Got there and my baby was buried - I had to dig her up ...

Possibly with Spike as "her." And the baby buried lines from Spike on his coffin-bed. Cause we all know Buffy's got a thing for the dead boys.
