eruthros: Farscape: John and Harvey in bunny suits (FS - John and Harvey in bunny suits)
So I was thinking about the [community profile] kink_bingo mini-challenge for this month as I was editing the kink wiki and putting in examples. And then I thought, wow, actually, I can think of a whole bunch of characters who dressed up in fursuits orfeather-suits! I should make an iconset of them to demonstrate how prevalent it is! So then I did.

There are 32 35 icons (thanks [personal profile] sabinetzin!) of people in fur/feathersuits under the cut: Mythbusters, Life on Mars, Boston Legal, Buffy, Middleman, Gravitation, and Farscape.

Sample:

Aaaaand then I thought, while I'm uploading icons, I'll put up some Misc Iconage that I've done recently. This set includes Mytbusters kink icons, Doctor Who, Star Trek TOS, Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner, Rachel Maddow, Yellow Submarine, Hustle, White Coollar, Lord of the Rings (!), X-Files, Nichelle Nichols and Zoe Saldana, some stock photos of photography and tomatoes, and an educational comic from the 1950s.

I don't even know what all of these were for! )

So, now I can figure out who wrote my stories!

On This Shore of the World was by [personal profile] sophinisba, and The Outskirter's Quest was by xylaria (possibly [livejournal.com profile] xylaria?). Thank you both!

I wrote four stories for yuletide this year. Here's how it went:

Dreams, Tranquility, Solitude (Moon 2009 movie). [livejournal.com profile] aitakute basically asked for dystopia and identity, and I thought: well. I can do that with the film, it's all there already.

In a way, this is a perfect fandom for me -- I love worldbuilding. In another way, well, I spent a really long time watching the movie and trying to figure out, like, the economics of helium three mining, and why three years, and the physics of lunar bases, and when the baby was supposed to be born. Then basically none of that went into the story, but it made me feel better.

La Adelita (Como agua para chocolate | Like Water for Chocolate). This was my first treat; I read the author letter again on Monday night or Tuesday morning, and really wanted to read a story for the prompt. Then I ended up writing a lot of this while I was on the plane on Tuesday. I hadn't read the book or seen the movie since like 1993, but I got it from the library early Wednesday morning and sped through the relevant parts to make appropriate changes (including my facepalm when I realized that Gertrudis canonically joined Villa's army -- I'd totally thought she was a Zapatista) and see how I'd done with tone.

This story is kind of like, things [personal profile] eruthros loves: magical realism, bodies, recipes, women's knowledge. Check. Also I really am going to nominate Around the Day in Eighty Worlds or Hopscotch or something next year.

Rough (anthropomofic web 2.0). Um. Well. I got home from doing all my Christmas shopping in basically two days and I was tired and cranky and I wanted to write some yuletide treats but I just couldn't face looking at source. So I wrote a story about the pages in yuletide archive instead, based on a prompt that I'd seen go by on the pinch hit list that had a line like "or anything really." I was careful to keep it under a thousand words, though, because [personal profile] elynross said somewhere that people could go wild for treats, and use just the fandom if we thought the recipient would like it, but that folks couldn't do that for full-length stories.

The Abbreviated History of the Flashlight (The Lost Room + four other crossovery fandoms). I wrote this in about half an hour, an hour before the end of yuletide uploads. I really liked the idea, but I think it came out very much rushed -- I'll have to try again when it's not, like, "aaaah do I post it or not?"

I also acquired source for two other treats I wanted to write, but I just couldn't face watching anything. Perhaps I will do them as NYR stories.
eruthros: Grant Imahara from Mythbusters wearing a Star Trek TOS science uniform and Vulcan ear extensions (Mythbusters - grant in a star trek unifo)
I ... don't even know. I was just sitting here! And then I was making Mythbusters icons! Some of them even involve Jamie smiling. Like, he's having an emotion or something.

Sample icons, none of which involve Jamie smiling, but I promise there are some:

001
002
003
Forty (!!!) icons below the cut. There are: seven Jamie and Adam, twelve Jamie, four Adam, two Grant, two Kari, one Tory, one Scottie, one Scottie and Kari, one Adam and Grant, three text, and six animated icons )
eruthros: Grant Imahara from Mythbusters wearing a Star Trek TOS science uniform and Vulcan ear extensions (Mythbusters - grant in a star trek unifo)
I was googling for images for something else last night when I came upon the following information: MYTHBUSTERS IS GOING TO TEST THE GORN CANNON FROM STAR TREK TOS. It totally deserves the allcaps, because this is going to be awesome. A) Kirk makes his own gunpowder and fires diamonds and b) Grant bought himself a Star Trek shirt. Yes. The build team is going to test it, and so Grant bought a TOS science-officer shirt and some Vulcan ear extension things and a communicator and a tribble and a yellow shirt for Tory and a red shirt for Buster. And then he took pictures of it all! For reals!

SO, as a consequence, I made an icon, because what can you do when faced with that much concentrated awesome?

And, while I'm posting icons, I thought I'd include some random ones I made in the last few days or found in my icon-making folder. Three more Mythbusters, three Dead Zone, two Sentinel, three of Martha Jones being awesome, one SG-1, one Batman comics, and a whole bunch of video game icons )
eruthros: Delenn from Babylon 5 with a startled expression and the text "omg!" (B5 - Delenn OMG)
As I was going through my image folders today, I discovered a sub-folder in my icon-making folder called "bases," apparently dating to about 2004 or 2005. And in it, I found forty Babylon 5 icon bases, all textless, and all or almost all from season one. I have a vague recollection of this -- I think that it was a period in which it was quite difficult to find screencaps of B5, and the DVDs were either not available or expensive, so I found someone who had a bunch of screencaps in zip files and was overjoyed. Apparently, overjoyed enough to make forty icon bases. And then forget about them. But here they are, in case anybody is looking for B5 icons. (If you don't have your own photo-editing software, I'm happy to add text for you.)

Below the cut you will find icons of: G'Kar, Londo, Ivanova, Delenn, Na'Toth, Sinclair, Franklin, Bester (!!), Morden, Vir, some random props I don't even know, and possibly some things I'm forgetting.

Icons under here )

I do sort-of remember why I wanted some of these. I think #27 was going to be a something-wicked-this-way-comes icon for political links, and #30 was going to be a "help! I'm being sucked into a new fandom against my will!" icon. Also, I quite like #1 and #35, but I have no idea what I wanted them for.

1) A Host of Sparrows, Emma Bull's Bone Dance. Please don't read this if you haven't read the book -- I love the book times a billion, and this story spoils the best part of the book. ( Bone Dance is like B5, in a way: you can't use the best part to convince people to read it, because it's a million times better if you don't see it coming.)

more on Bone Dance and this story )

2) Paradise Lost, which is, uh, NC-17 LOLcats fic with voyeurism.

This is a long facepalmy story )

I hear tell that I have scarred a number of people for life. Um. Yay?

3) Poolside, Cary Grant/Marlon Brando.

details here )

Now, to go figure out who wrote everything I liked, and institute tracking measures.

ETA: Now that I can load the yuletide pages without seeing a screaming snowman, I can report that [livejournal.com profile] ladygray99 wrote my main story and [livejournal.com profile] mjules wrote my treat. Thanks to you both!

Remember the super-sekrit massive vidding project that [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings and I have been working on for more than eight months?

Well, it is super sekrit no longer! We now reveal:

One-Night Fandoms: a tribute to yuletide by eruthros and thingswithwings. You can watch it and read more about it on the main post, linked above.

Brief details: It's not a vid for the yuletide challenge, it's a vid of the yuletide challenge. 191 sources, all of them yuletide fandoms.

I still can't believe we did this. We spent eight months on it, combing the yuletide archive, finding source, watching entire television shows in a single week. We looked at more than 230 sources, many of which we'd never even heard of before we began the project. And we fell in love with yuletide over and over again in the process.
eruthros: Delenn from Babylon 5 with a startled expression and the text "omg!" (Default)
So for [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings's birthday yesterday, I decided to combine two of her great loves: board games and Stargate Atlantis. I thought that I might be able to design a Stargate-themed board game all her own. And here is [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings's present, Stargate Atlantis: Master Detective, which is a graft of SGA onto the basic framework of a game of Clue. So, yes, Hermiod in Teyla's Room with the Drone Weapon.

How I made the game, low-res jpeg shots of the cards and board, and the assembly file with high-res versions if you want to build your own SGA Clue game under this here cut )

So there you go: the story of how I clearly went a little bit over the top. Maybe.
eruthros: Delenn from Babylon 5 with a startled expression and the text "omg!" (Default)
So when [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings and I get together, we do cracktastic combined fannishness. (Some of you are probably familiar with the particular kind of cracktastic that happens on this sofa. Especially when it's Stargate-related.)

Yesterday, we had a spot of trouble opening a jar of honey and began to tell each other the kinds of jokes we imagined Atlanteans telling. And unlike our normal practice, we actually wrote them down and could remember them later! [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings has posted them here: A priest, a rabbi, and an ATA user walk into a bar....

So! That is where you should go if you want to know what happens when SGA-1 walks into a bar. Or what happens when an anthropologist, a botanist, and Rodney McKay are offworld together.
eruthros: Doctor Who: the TARDIS in wrapping paper and a masked Santa (DW - christmasy)
Best headline EVER: "Pants found in ravine." Way to make the readers wtf, Sf Chronicle!

picture behind the cut: the bad wolf really is everywhere )

Spoilers for SGA 3x13 Irresponsible )

Also, my new icon involves evil clockwork Santas peering at the TARDIS. Who can possibly resist evil clockwork Santas?
