guess which character wrote that secret

For my birthday this past weekend, I got the flu. Now I am achey and tired and cranky and fever-and-chills-y and hard-to-focus-y and I can't read fic and I screwed up the decreases in my knitting like twelve times yesterday because I couldn't count.

So I thought it was time to post a guessing-fannish-stuff meme!

Some months ago, [personal profile] aria posted a bunch of post secret-style secrets from the POV of various characters, and asked people to guess who wrote which secret. At the time I thought it was a great idea, and wanted to turn it into a meme (again), but then it took me a long time to make any secrets, and also to come up with secrets, and anyway I'm bad at getting around to posting things, so I just stuck them over in posts-to-maybe-make-someday. But today is clearly a good day for it!

Behind the cut: forty-some secrets by characters from twenty-some fandoms; includes text descriptions )

One NSFW secret is here, under a separate cut )

I'd love to play in your versions, too! )

ETA: There are two secrets left unguessed (counting the ones where someone made an awesome guess, but nobody guessed what I'd originally intended): #7 and 41. So I thought I'd narrow down the fandoms somewhat; the remaining ones come from: Stargate SG-1 and Nintendo video games.

Many icons!

So I was thinking about the [community profile] kink_bingo mini-challenge for this month as I was editing the kink wiki and putting in examples. And then I thought, wow, actually, I can think of a whole bunch of characters who dressed up in fursuits orfeather-suits! I should make an iconset of them to demonstrate how prevalent it is! So then I did.

There are 32 35 icons (thanks [personal profile] sabinetzin!) of people in fur/feathersuits under the cut: Mythbusters, Life on Mars, Boston Legal, Buffy, Middleman, Gravitation, and Farscape.

Sample:
001
002
003

furry iconset )

Aaaaand then I thought, while I'm uploading icons, I'll put up some Misc Iconage that I've done recently. This set includes Mytbusters kink icons, Doctor Who, Star Trek TOS, Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner, Rachel Maddow, Yellow Submarine, Hustle, White Coollar, Lord of the Rings (!), X-Files, Nichelle Nichols and Zoe Saldana, some stock photos of photography and tomatoes, and an educational comic from the 1950s.

I don't even know what all of these were for! )

Buffy episode COME TO LIFE

For serious, you guys, I totally saw this news story when it was a Buffy episode.

Now that is some incredible foreshadowing -- from first season to here. Wow.

(no subject)

So! [livejournal.com profile] graycastle and I have decided that we need to do a project. A very important project. A project that will represent the spirit and ideas of individual fandoms.

We want to find two-second clips from shows that say what those shows really mean. Ideally only one character.

This thought, see, was precipitated by me trying to explain the premise of the Sentinel, and then playing the first few minutes of the Sentinel, and then pausing it on a certain line to say "... well, actually, that kinda sums it up right there."

The line was Jim, talking to the SWAT guys at the beginning of the episode. He looked anxious and armed, and he said "Do you smell that?" That, my friend, is the Sentinel.

We decided that Fraser's first-came-to-Chicago was too obvious for due South, and [livejournal.com profile] graycastle voted for "Ray. Ray. Ray. Ray. Ray. If you don't mind." I voted for "Hi, dad. How're you?" "I'm dead, son. Other than that, do you mean?" Except it's two characters, woe.

And my Buffy choice is, of course, "All right, I get it, you're evil. Do we have to chat about it all day?"

Bad fiction days...

All stumbled across or sent to me in the last few days:

Story summaries:

Moony wants Padfoot, Remus wants Sirius but does Sirius feel the same?
(Because they're, um, different people?)

AU. Set during and after Buffy "Chosen" & HP "OotP" BTVSHP crossover. What if James and Lily didn’t die, but was sent forward in time? And landed beside a now destroyed hellmouth were they meet Buffy & CO?
(I ... don't even know where to start.)

Take five boys and a Sorting Hat, mix them up and bake in a moderate oven for six years. Warning, this is not a happy tale.
(Until golden brown; test with a clean fork before serving.)

Author's notes:

It might squeak you. On the other hand, I did some research and apparently what I wrote actually sometimes happen.
(I would so hate to be squeaked. It sounds undignified. And possibly painful.)

Disclaimers: I don't own anything HP, so don't please, don't sue! I own nothing except for my plot bunny of 'Bella' and my three OC's, Eathen Simone, Andre' DuPrea, and 'my' Bella.
(Because as we all know, Interesting and Innovative Doubled Vowels make any OC better! ... or possibly more Mary-Suey. One of the two.)

This is a short somewhat smutty little fic that started out with a question - is it possible to write a love scene between two people without divulging who they are, including their gender? This means that the chracters could be M/F, M/M or F/F. My question to you is – can you tell who the lovers are?
(My answer would be "no." To both questions. Especially if you're not using pronouns. Maybe it's in the third person neutral like in Turkish?)

In the meantime, I watch Stargate to distract me from reloading the Media Matters chart every ten seconds. La. The world will not end. La. If it does, I will still try to sleep tonight. La. I will not bitch out anyone for calling Florida for Bush while polls in Miami-Dade are still open. La. La. Ommmmmmmm.

For those of you who haven't seen this...

Great Buffy website. From [livejournal.com profile] eliade. Lists what characters call other characters on Buffy.

For example, the Giles page -- you can get to all the others from this link.

Things Giles has been called:

"funky party weasel" (Xander)
"manly in an obsessive- compulsive kind of way" (Buffy)
"Mr. 'I spent the sixties in an electric Kool-Aid funky Satan groove'" (Xander)
"a sexy fuddy-duddy" (Jenny)
"a stupid git" (Spike)

Fun!

Comment on a bit of a salon.com article about Buffy (not the anti-Spike one, but Bye-bye, Buffy! It's an interesting article in many ways.

For Buffy Fans:

Tim Goodman, TV critic of the SF Chron, on Buffy and the finale. Spoiler-free for the finale; spoiler-heavy for season 6.

Buffy's demise puts a stake in our hearts

This article captures, I think, the fear that the finale will be a letdown and the nostalgia and love for the series. Tim Goodman has often ranted about the lack of recognition (Emmys and otherwise) for Joss Whedon and Buffy, so you know he's a real fan.

Buffy and other Fannish Things

I spent the last fifteen minutes going through Buffy screencaps looking for a few particular images. I paged through thousands of thumbnails from various seasons, and it really hit me how much everyone used to smile on Buffy. I was paging through some really rough episodes (like What's My Line 1+2) and they were still smiling! And standing close together! And hugging! And acting like friends! I tell you, it really makes me miss the days when, as [livejournal.com profile] ryca says "the episodes ending with everyone walking off to go get ice cream with their arms over each other's shoulders to happy upbeat rock music." Once upon a time, I swear, these characters hung out together. And joked. And laughed. Really.

In other news, [livejournal.com profile] m_shell and I have been talking about getting together a regular fannish Night of Hanging Out in addition to Buffy Night. Being "in fandom" not required, just the right mindset. Because Buffy Night is fun an' all, but we can't watch Fight the Future or Bad Blood (XF), Rev 6:8 and Comes a Horseman (HL), Babylon squared and WWE1+2 all in a row (B5, the Eps That Melt Your Brain), or HCL, or Sorority Boys, or all the stuff I've never seen (Mag7, Eroica, etc), or Probe, or even Buffy's Nightmares, Fear Itself, and Restless. And even if we could convince people to watch them, we couldn't then talk about The Quickening: What Does it Mean? or Aliens on the X-Files: The Fuck? or The Progression of Fear on Buffy: What Does it Mean That The Fear Xander Defeats in "Nightmares" Doesn't Recur on the Show? I mean, we can't get all snarky and debatey and critique right and left and puzzle out contradictions in canon an' all that.

So. Vaguely Fannish-Related Night for those in the SC Area. Anyone interested? What night should it be? Weekly or every other week? Where? At our (incredibly messy) place? Or somewhere with a real DVD player? [livejournal.com profile] antigone921, [livejournal.com profile] sineala, [livejournal.com profile] mlechan, and others (hey [livejournal.com profile] ryca, you interested?), let us know! We'll make cookies and garlic bread as appropriate.

Random thoughts from the weekend

Personally, I'm sick of all this carving-of-mystic-sigils on people. Okay, I get that blood is all symbolic, and it's a sign that the ritual in question is evil and blah blah blah, plus it's an excuse to take Spike's shirt off (he's becoming like William Shatner in TOS; any excuse for toplessness happily capitalized on by writers). But it's all -- well, bloody. It's been overdone, and while I think Spike hurts pretty, I'm over it.

I think it would be much more fun to do your standard Mystic Sigils in chocolate body paint. Or even honey (which has the added benefit of being more liquid, thus allowing you to include the standard convention of "stay perfectly still"). Or watercolors or something. A nice Seurat-style set of Mystic Sigils would be tons of fun.

More amusement

Also occurred to me today. What I would love to see on Buffy this season:

Buffy and company take Spike to a therapist, who realizes he's having massive guilt reactions and hearing voices. He sometimes hears Buffy's voice when she's not really there, Spike says, and he can't tell the difference. Said therapist prescribes meds for Spike.

Spike, then, begins to get better, and he can tell the difference between Buffy's voice and not-Buffy's voice. He knows that there is a voice telling him things Buffy would never tell him; he knows that something wants him to do unpleasant things, but that it is not him and is not Buffy.

The meds work because his susceptibility to the Big Bad was partly due to his soul making him crazy-guilty. I take this from Willow and Buffy's easy acceptance that the Big Bad was not telling the truth, but trying to get inside of them and push their buttons.

Honestly, I just want to see a vamp on meds. Would rock my world.

That is all.

Awwww. How cute.

I just did a quick read of [livejournal.com profile] m_shell's Dawn/Chloe story. She's hoping to post it tonight so as to at least post before being Jossed, even if it won't last.

It's so cute! Adorable femmeslash. I'm hoping she'll post it to ClarkLexFic and the Smallville Slash Archive since, you know, my girl's finally writing in a fandom that actually has a central archive. (I'm impressed by her determination, because I've never been able to get into a fandom that is based around ff.n. The pop-ups, the interface, the formatting -- oy. It all drives me crazy.)

Buffy songvid idea

[livejournal.com profile] m_shell and I have decided that someone needs to do for the endless mushy Buffy/Spike songvids and for BtVS fandom what [livejournal.com profile] sineala did for the X-files with "Sorry."

I want irony. I want someone to notice how dysfunctional their relationship is. I want the same "sexy-Spuffy" shots in a new context.

I want a Buffy/Spike songvid to the Headstones' "Cemetery."

I got a gal who lives on the wrong side of town
I know what I like and man you know I sure know how
It's the other side, another place
I like it here, no accounting for taste
I can't think of nothing when I'm with her
But the wind and the rain and the cemetery dirt

Went down to the cemetery looking for love
Got there and my baby was buried - I had to dig her up ...

Possibly with Spike as "her." And the baby buried lines from Spike on his coffin-bed. Cause we all know Buffy's got a thing for the dead boys.
