I know! Even I noticed that, and I've barely read Asian literature pre-1700. I wanted to know where Monkey was. And the Ramayana! It's weighted far too much toward award-winning Western novels since 1970. A mess.
Clearly, we should make our own list. We've already made a good start.
I read Red Harvest in a collection of Dashiell Hammett novels. I didn't much care for the Continental Op stories in general, but I remember very little about Red Harvest, which is not a good sign. (There are actually a fair number of books there that I marked "read" even though I hated them, or don't remember the plots, or both. Like House of Mirth. Blech.)
