There is a web tool that looks for the shortest path from A to B in wikipedia. It is the most awesome thing that ever awesomed.

For example, look! You can get from Jean-Francois Lyotard to Toothpaste in four easy steps! Aesthetics, Ancient Rome, Marble, Toothpaste. I don't know why there's a link to toothpaste on the marble page, but now I've got to go find out.

You have to tell it to ignore date pages, or you get boring results via, like, 1924 and 1978. Pah.

This is really cool... see, with this, you can play Wikipedia golf! The 6degrees tool gives you par, and then you see how close you can come by navigating through the site.

No, I don't play golf.

DUDE! Brilliant.

We should run the First Annual Fannish Wikipedia Golf contest, where you go between A and B. And A is something directly connected with the show, and B is something connected to the show only fannishly.

Like, like: Rodney McKay to Dolphin (from cesperanza's story where he turns into a dolphin)

Or: John Sheppard to Princess.

(I can't think of any really stand-out concepts from well-known Stargate SG1 or due South stories, though. I mean, things that would make people twig to a specific story or conversation the way "Rodney McKay" and "dolphin" would.)

And we would use 6Degrees to get par, and do it as a text-box poll, with people putting in their link paths! It would be awesome!

I haven't read anything in the DS fandom, so I can't comment. (Loved the show, but had no internet access at the time, so I never got sucked into the fanac.)

My husband wants to compete in the masterclass, btw- he has a ruleset which bans categories (as obviously cheating).

I think it should be a tournament, so, like, several sets of nine-hole rounds. Like, Round One: Stargate. Round Two: due South. Round Three: Miscellaneous Fandoms. Or whatever.

And we should give awards for the best score per hole, per round, and for the whole tournament.

AND of course there should be a master class.
