Warning, this is going to be TLDR ^-^

[I'm [personal profile] ladysugarquill on LJ]

I must say it's a good thing you told them what things you disagree with, after all that's how science progresses, finding mistakes and correcting them.

However, I found your (and I'm using the general "you" here ^^)responses a bit harsh. We don't really know if they're going to do a hasty research or not, I think we could give them the benefit of the doubt. I understand there's a political bagage in your position (political in the good sense of the word), that you're fighting against social discourses that naturalize arbitrary labels. With that I agree. But their polite response to your message and the fact they're fixing the survey before they even start is a good sign, IMHO.

I'm s psychology student. The fist thing they told us at college is that objective science and pure data don't exist, what we investigate is always coloured by our theories and hypotesis. And also, that there will always be different theories, and that the contrast between them is what makes science work. So I don't think we shouldn't help in their investigation just because we disagree with their theories. I'm not a big fan of the "biology explains it all" view, but our answers might help to refute their theories if they are not correct and if they are honest investigators. (If they're not honest, however, there's nothing we can do ^-^). Almost everyone in a research group I'm part of is anti-psychoanalisis. I really like psychoanalisis. We've had our academic discusions about it. But I think our different views on the subjects allow us to be open and accept that things don't have a unique explanation.

OMG that's a lot of "thoughts on yaoi". Sorry! ^^u

TL;DR version: It's great that you helped them refine their instrument, and I think we should give them the benefit of the doubt and participate when it's ready.

(I hope this wasn't too badly written, english isn't my mother tongue)
