What made us leery about Ogas in particular was what appeared to be any attempt to, well, lurk, or read anything about us, or anything; he had a just-created journal, which is about as outsidery as you can get, and he seemed to be jumping right in to "research" not "observation."

I imagine that when you start doing fannish research, you'll already know about comment-threading and novel-length fanfiction, for example :)
