Well, part of what I find interesting about it is that I often feel like the writer doesn't think of the fic as kinky -- tropic, perhaps, but not kinky. Like, I can't see into anyone's brain, but from the way such stories are warned/discussed I feel like a lot of people think that since they're not sex stories, they can't be sexy? Or something? Not everyone, obviously.

That said, your kinks are your kinks -- I enjoy some good narrative kinkiness myself.
