A random google search brought me the following:

Being resourceful came in handy when Hyneman was about 14. He ran away from home for six months after his parents threatened to send him to reform school because of "unruly behavior." The adventure ended in California, where Hyneman spent a few days in juvenile detention until his parents brought him home.

Just imagine the face thingswithwings made when I read that out to her with appropriate emphasis on "resourceful" and "unruly behavior." JUST IMAGINE.

Now imagine the hooker AUs. Or the reform school AUs. Or Jamie's first time in California, when he ran away to San Francisco in 1970 as a boy of fourteen. OH MY GOD.

I have totally been super friendly with people at work who I wouldn't spend time with (or give the time of day to) outside work, but it's still sort of depressing to see it laid bare like that.

I have selective attention about that kind of thing, I have to say. I have decided that Jamie just doesn't really like emotions, and so he doesn't think of anybody as a friend! It's my using-John Sheppard-as-an-interpretive-tool tinhat

I think that's true about Jamie - he generally is just very blank and flat about everything, he doesn't do being nice or being friends really. He doesn't think he likes people all that much. My tinhat story is, he LOVES Adam really - I mean, it seems like his workshop is basically where his heart is, and he'd be sad if Adam wasn't there making mess in it! Aw! - but he has to compartmentalize his life to not let Adam in all of it, or he wouldn't be able to manage it. So Adam is in his work compartment, and that is that.
