In unrelated content I wrote up earlier, I have remembered that I can put hard cooked eggs in salad when I don't want all my protein to be cheese and nuts. I have to rediscover salads every summer, and I've so far gone "oh, marinades!" and "oh, eggs! right!" By August I have usually figured out a routine, and then there aren't enough months of summer left. Eventually I will remember foods like "smoothies" and "cereal" and other warm-weather stuff.

And in other other news, I watched Going Postal and quite enjoyed it. Spoilers ahead!

I thought they did a pretty good job of adapting a fairly sprawly book to a pair of films; they took out some stuff and elided some plots in ways that mostly made sense and that I mostly didn't miss too much.

But the real reason I like it so much better than the Color of Magic and Hogfather adaptations, I think, is that they finally hit on an appropriate size of cast and actors: they've picked a book that has two main leads and some secondary actors and then a bunch of supporting characters who show up a bunch. (Like, I don't recall if they ever say Drumknott's name, but he's often around.) And they cast Moist and Vetinari and Adora Belle quite well, which is also a vast difference from Color of Magic.

I could have done without: the uniformity and blah-ness of the golem costumes and voices; the added hanging plot at the end; the way I couldn't tell what Mr. Pony was saying most of the time; Adora Belle dressing in color and stopping smoking at the end.

I missed: the golem trust stuff and the stories of the golems; Moist riding the horse without a saddle; the stamps.

But all in all I enjoyed it!

Oh, and also? They totally left in the great dialogue about the stiletto. Except they directed it at Moist instead of a random stranger, so when he's turned on by it it's even more shoe-fetishy.

Yeah, I noticed that you were alone dispensing cards today. That's hardcore. The rush of comments was astonishing. How many did you give out? Are your hands going to forgive you?
