Also: Mark Morford. Because:
There will not be a great parting of the clouds.

There will not be brighter flowers and happier puppies. There will not be massive choruses of angels singing and birds chirping and dolphins finally standing upright and speaking fluent Latin and saying we knew it all along.

Let's be real: Should Kerry win this election, we are most likely not in for a spectacular and unprecedented ride of shiny progressive glory that will astound the world and reignite the collective soul and float us all to the hereafter on golden wings of sparkly well-lubed bliss. OK?
Some columns make me *heart* Mr. Morford. And this is one of them.

Speaking of, at Cowell we wrote down what we were thankful for on the back of our tickets for the Thanksgiving college night, and the year of the 2000 election I wrote "Chronicle columnist Jon Carroll, salon.com, Aaron McGruder's comic strip 'Boondocks,' and Comedy Central's 'Daily Show.'" These days I would add the daily kos and David Brock's Media Matters for America. And, of course, Salon.com's War Room, and Bob Harris and Tom Tommorow's This Modern Blog. Sometimes I get really grumpy and despairing and I feel like no-one in America is talking about the things that are important and then I remember Media Matters and I feel better.

Also, winamp has for some reason been targeting covers in its recent shuffle. I have heard Fruvous doing Nowhere Man, No Doubt doing Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, the Hindi version of Dancing Queen, and Music to Get C6thed By (yes, really their name) doing And I Love Her. And other stuff, but I've forgotten what. Could we find another folder?

Also, yesterday I made much banana bread, as I am in a baking mood. Because the oven can be on without causing pain. Mmmm, storing up for the winter -- it's time to do the kinds of soups that fill several quart containers and take an hour. Minestrone to fill our largest pot. Mmmm. There is much cooking to come.
