eruthros: llamas! (llamas)
For my birthday this past weekend, I got the flu. Now I am achey and tired and cranky and fever-and-chills-y and hard-to-focus-y and I can't read fic and I screwed up the decreases in my knitting like twelve times yesterday because I couldn't count.

So I thought it was time to post a guessing-fannish-stuff meme!

Some months ago, [personal profile] aria posted a bunch of post secret-style secrets from the POV of various characters, and asked people to guess who wrote which secret. At the time I thought it was a great idea, and wanted to turn it into a meme (again), but then it took me a long time to make any secrets, and also to come up with secrets, and anyway I'm bad at getting around to posting things, so I just stuck them over in posts-to-maybe-make-someday. But today is clearly a good day for it!

Behind the cut: forty-some secrets by characters from twenty-some fandoms; includes text descriptions )

One NSFW secret is here, under a separate cut )

I'd love to play in your versions, too! )

ETA: There are two secrets left unguessed (counting the ones where someone made an awesome guess, but nobody guessed what I'd originally intended): #7 and 41. So I thought I'd narrow down the fandoms somewhat; the remaining ones come from: Stargate SG-1 and Nintendo video games.

I have decided that my experience of SGA fandom can be summed up by three vids:

Another Sunday by [livejournal.com profile] jescaflowne This is for unicorns and rainbows and beanie babies and girl scout cookies and ridiculous AUs and also for laughing at ourselves for taking this show and these actors and especially Joe Flanigan seriously.

What is Eternal? by [livejournal.com profile] gnine This is for taking this show and these actors seriously. And ironically. At the same time. Like, I do sincerely believe in Rodney's manpain! And also it's hilarious. I feel like watching this vid is so much like my experience in SGA fandom, because [livejournal.com profile] gnine totally makes me buy it, and does these amazing cuts between current!Atlantis and future!Atlantis, and the bit about "judged on a scale that's been heavily weighted" makes me sniffle every time, and it really makes me believe in the team OT4. But then I kind of love it ironically, too, and can't believe that I'm taking it seriously.

Faggot by Gabby ([livejournal.com profile] sextagteam). And this is for John Sheppard, the guy who is totally wrong for the action-hero lead, for the commander of a military base, for the military at all. And yet there he is, being a big queer weirdo, throwing himself into suicide missions, always aware of the ways in which he doesn't quite fit. ILU John Sheppard, thanks for making a fandom for me! Also, notice how I've come around again to taking Joe Flanigan seriously? I'd better go watch Another Sunday again.

(Actually that reminds me that I have this theory that John Sheppard's character can be summed up by Faggot, [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl's Evening on the Ground, and [personal profile] thingswithwings's a lieutenant colonel is being beaten -- what's he's reacting to and what he does with it, and what he thinks of himself, and what he wants.)

[personal profile] thingswithwings is running an important poll of importance on the characters who are best and worst at dirty talk.

I am hugely amused by the fact that the current front runners for "worst at dirty talk" are:
a ROBOT with NO EMOTIONS
an ANGEL with NO CORPOREAL BODY
and JOHN SHEPPARD.

Oh, John Sheppard.

For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, I've been working on various image stuff. As a result, I have a bunch of queries for people who remember tv better than I do.

1) Jack O'Neill tied up. The look: Black t-shirt, green bdu pants, collar, chains, arms held behind his back by a pole. The context: offworld? There are Jaffa involved, I think? And I think it's in season six or seven? Possibly? I know this one exists, I just can't find it.

2) I don't know that this one exists, but what the hey, it might. Do Gunn and Lindsey ever point guns or crossbows or other weapons at each other?

3) What would be the best HP film to go to, if I were looking for Snape, Draco, and Harry alone or foregrounded together in the same frame?

And a wild card:

4) What is your favorite (accidental or intentional) phallic visual gag?

So, [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings and I were getting groceries this morning when we walked past an Irish pub doing its St. Patrick's Day celebration. We got about five paces past the sandwich board advertising their menu and suddenly stopped, turned and looked at each other, and said "did you just see that?"

So I went back and took a picture. Which I reproduce here with commentary )

In which [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings and I finally realize the TRUTH about the scifi channel's monster movies. The horrifying, Philip-K-Dickian truth.

So, this morning I was sitting in a cafe, doing some reading and sipping an iced soy latte. (Because it is apocalyptic weather here in the Bay Area, where we are worried about drought and about fires already in January.)

And Johnny Cash's Mercy Seat started playing. "Hee," I thought, because it always reminds me of [livejournal.com profile] lim's amazing John Sheppard vid I Am/Lamb.

So I'm listening to Johnny Cash tell me about a crime of which he's totally innocent, you know, and doing my crossword puzzle.

And then ... wtf? The next song on the playlist is Iron and Wine's Evening on the Ground. Or, as I think of it, [livejournal.com profile] hollywoodgrrl's Evening on the Ground. ALSO a John Sheppard vid, also awesome.

When the next song to play was Iggy Pop's "I Wanna Be Your Dog," I nearly choked on my latte. John Sheppard again? This time in [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings's a lieutenant colonel is being beaten?

Seriously, guys, if I was not listening to some barrista's vid songs playlist, that she used to enjoy fannishness while at work, I don't know what was going on -- that's one heck of a coincidence: three genres, three eras, connected only as Awesome John Sheppard vids.

I should totally have asked the barrista on duty whose mix CD it was. I could've made a new fannish friend!

So for [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings's birthday yesterday, I decided to combine two of her great loves: board games and Stargate Atlantis. I thought that I might be able to design a Stargate-themed board game all her own. And here is [livejournal.com profile] thingswithwings's present, Stargate Atlantis: Master Detective, which is a graft of SGA onto the basic framework of a game of Clue. So, yes, Hermiod in Teyla's Room with the Drone Weapon.

How I made the game, low-res jpeg shots of the cards and board, and the assembly file with high-res versions if you want to build your own SGA Clue game under this here cut )

So there you go: the story of how I clearly went a little bit over the top. Maybe.
