Miscellaneous Post #5
Jan. 25th, 2005 09:24 pmI am totally amazed by my most recent knitting project. See, I saw this pretty (purplebluegreenpinkwhee) skein of yarn on sale for $3.40, which is very very cheap. But it had no label, so I didn't know the yardage. And there was only one of it. But pretty pretty! So I bought it anyway, even though I thought it probably wouldn't make a project on its own -- maybe a hat, but even that looked like it would be close.
So I decided to try it anyway. And it has since made ... two (!) scarves, both knit with an eyelash yarn as well, and a pair of slippers. And it's finally all gone with the sewing seams of the slippers. So obviously it was way, way more yards than I estimated, but even so! A pair of slippers is a lot, in terms of square footage -- put the two together and you've probably got enough to make a top, although it's entirely the wrong shape. I've had entire skeins of worsted-weight yarn barely make slippers. *pokes last little bit of yarn* I dub thee... the amazing SKEEEEEIIIIN!
Also, I wish I had (er, knew. not had one personally) a baby to knit a baby blanket for, as I inherited my grandmother's remnant yarns last year, all of which are soft and fuzzy and very clearly intended for baby-projects.
m_shell finished part of her finals, so today we went out for the earliest alcoholic meal I've ever had. See, a bunch of people arranged a post-exam trip to the General Lafayette Inn. Only they finished their exams today way early, at like 10:30. They swung by and got me and then headed out to lunch and beer... only to discover that the kitchen didn't open until 11:30. Thusly did many medical students who had only had coffee for breakfast get very tipsy, yea verily. One of 'em drank two raspberry mead ales before even ordering. But eventually there was food, and really good french fries, and actually I didn't have anything to drink except a few sips of
m_shell's raspberry mead ale. Because, for Propriety and Society's sake, I refuse to drink anything other than Bloody Marys and Mimosas before noon. And I don't like Bloody Marys. So.
Anyway, we came back, hung out,
m_shell read a bunch of short stories and relaxed in the bath, and we made a mushroom-barley soup that ended up a bit more mushroom-barley pilaf, texture-wise, and also watched much Starsky and Hutch.
