CALIFORNIA STATE SUPREME COURT OVERTURNS SAME SEX MARRIAGE BAN

I do not have enough allcaps you guys. It's amazing, because it really was a lot about language -- civil unions in California had a lot of the same rights as marriage, and it's harder to make a legal case out of that, you know?

I know it's just a piece of paper, maybe a handful of added rights. But it is a huge deal.

Yes! Exactly! Terminologically and practically. And because, as Gavin Newsom pointed out, as California goes, so goes the nation -- Berkeley and San Francisco are historic firsts for tons of things that became standard American practice.
