Yuletide presents for me! I didn't get an email about them, but I found them anyway, and look what I got!

From my main yuletide author, I got something I didn't know I wanted -- I asked for The Dude character voice doing just about anything. But it turns out I wanted The Dude voice as he watched the ghost of Donny bowl. Not Undead, Just Not Dead, Big Lebowski.

And I also got a stocking stuffer! A really atmospheric Genly Ai and Estraven in the snow, and Genly's discomfort in his own body as he sees Estraven's body change. Cinders and Snow, Left Hand of Darkness.

*hugs stories*

And some stories that were for someone else, but I get to have anyway, in a completely random order:

Five Times Geoffrey Really Should Have Admitted That Darren Is a Fucking Genius, Slings & Arrows. You GUYS, I love Darren so much, and I love Slings & Arrows so much, and the only thing that makes me sad about the show is the way that method acting always wins over Darren Nichol's awesome conceived performances. But here, Darren gets to be awesome; he's silly, he has hilarious ideas, but sometimes they work and are awesome. And sometimes Geoffrey is ridiculous, too. Also, this is the true story of their relatinship, for serious.

Cryptic, Avengers. This story translates the feel of the show to fic so well. I knew that the author got the show when the summary was in the style of the show's post-title summaries, but then I read it and, seriously, there is so much of this that I can hear in Emma Peel and John Steed's voices. And the plot is so perfectly Avengers, too. Wow.

By the Waves We Left Behind, Many Waters. Many Waters always hurt a little; it's a great book, but it's also so isolating. Sandy and Dennys have their adventure, that they always miss in the other books about the Murrays -- but they have it alone, together, and they never seem to get the community that Meg and Calvin have years later. This is a story about their adventure, their unicorns, and the ways in which they trouble their later years -- when they are the only ones who know, and who mourn Yalith, and they are always in a world that denies what they felt. Awesome.

Invervvention, Black Books. It's got such a great Bernard voice, seriously, I love it so.

Barcelona, Black Books. Not as impeccably Bernard-voiced, but it's got an awesome plot that I was instantly in love with. Heart!

A Land So Wild and Savage, Little House series. In which the frontier, through Charles's eyes, is both more beautiful and more frightening than we ever see through Laura's eyes, and in which Charles grows up, too, over the course of the books, and doesn't like it. Really beautiful and melancholy.

There are two beautiful stories that do a similar thing for Caroline, that figure the way she has sacrificed, and the work she does for her family that is unrelated to cooking or cleaning -- Wisconsin, set in the Big Woods, and No Doubts, set before Laura's marriage.

Becoming a Lesbian: Megan Bloomfield's Guide for Cheerleaders", But I'm a Cheerleader. Megan tries to figure out what it means to be a lesbian.

And two you've probably seen recced everywhere:

the sandwich story, Calvin and Hobbes. Calvin grows up. Ow.

The Amazing Adventures of Hat Guy and the Girl Who Stole His Hat, xkcd comic. Road trip-love story, in a style perfect for the canon, full of hijinks and geek-love.
