LJ using IE+Horizon

As I have now posted this in response to asides in several comments, I thought I'd put in here in case any of y'all were having trouble.

If you're using Internet Explorer (or Safari) and Horizon, the new default site scheme, together, there's a bug that may give you trouble highlighting text with a click-and-drag. LJ says that they're working on a bugfix, but I haven't seen anything posted to lj_releases about the time scheme. (Their first try didn't work.)

If you want to highlight text, you've got several options:
1. Click on one side of the text you want to highlight, and shift-click on the other.
2. Try looking at the page with ?format=light appended to the end of the url.
3. Switch to one of the older site schemes at the viewing options page
4. Switch to a different browser. (This was the advice burr86 gave on one of the Horizon release posts after people started reporting the bug. It is to laugh. I can't convince dedicated IE users to switch to Firefox by pointing out that it does extensions! and greasemonkey! and you can turn off flash! and it will practically get your coffee for you! I really don't think "hey, we screwed up, and now you can't highlight on lj" is going to make people switch browsers.)

I think that this means that lj admin shouldn't have made Horizon the default yet, because that strikes me as a pretty big bug -- in fact, most of the last couple-three pages on the aforementioned lj_releases post up there are people saying "hey! I can't do this highlighting thing! What gives?"

Thanks- must admit I don't generally bother to follow the nuts and bolts discussions of LJ, but I had noticed the highlighting thing and it was irritating..

On the plus side, seeing your comment prompted me to download Firefox. I've placed my order for a hazelnut coffee, cream and sugar...just kidding. Your comment made me conscious that I'm *not* a 'dedicated Micro$oft user' but rather just terminally lazy. So I stopped right there, downloaded and installed Firefox and am posting this comment with it.. I like the tabbed browser feature. Also the feature that imports all your settings from Exploder is very nice!

Of course it helps that I'm sitting at the garage waiting for my car (gotta love free wireless at the car dealership!) and I should be doing some of the masses of work I brought. So this counts as goofing off, right?

I was terminally lazy for a long time, too; it's such work to switch software! But the extensions for firefox make me so happy -- I can block java! I can have cookies off by default and turn them on just when I need them! I can right-click on a username box and have bugmenot look for valid username/passwords! I can click on an address and get a map in google maps! It's all so fabulous! *still loving on firefox three years later*

And, no, downloading firefox doesn't count as goofing off. It's the computer equivalent of cleaning house during finals week to avoid the actual finals while not actually goofing off. :)
