The C.A. Thayer is back at Hyde Street Pier after extensive renovation. Y'all, I sang sea shanties and raised the anchor on the Thayer when I was a kidlet. I had birthday parties on the Thayer and Balclutha (a steel-hulled square-rigger). She's a hundred and ten years old, now, and they replaced the dry-rotted timber so that she can go out on the Bay again. How awesome is that?

I don't know what program I did exactly. Lo, I was sixish. But I have pictures of me pulling up the anchor, and eating ice cream in the windy Maritime Park, and I remember running up and down the planks in the storage hold, and going there in evenings and singing sea shanties in the captain's cabin. Oh, the age of sail!

Oh, I was older -- it was a full-on stay overnight project that we prepped for in advance for weeks. But it sounds very similar -- we did the chanties too, and I loved sleeping in the foc'sle.
