Buffy and other Fannish Things

I spent the last fifteen minutes going through Buffy screencaps looking for a few particular images. I paged through thousands of thumbnails from various seasons, and it really hit me how much everyone used to smile on Buffy. I was paging through some really rough episodes (like What's My Line 1+2) and they were still smiling! And standing close together! And hugging! And acting like friends! I tell you, it really makes me miss the days when, as ryca says "the episodes ending with everyone walking off to go get ice cream with their arms over each other's shoulders to happy upbeat rock music." Once upon a time, I swear, these characters hung out together. And joked. And laughed. Really.

In other news, m_shell and I have been talking about getting together a regular fannish Night of Hanging Out in addition to Buffy Night. Being "in fandom" not required, just the right mindset. Because Buffy Night is fun an' all, but we can't watch Fight the Future or Bad Blood (XF), Rev 6:8 and Comes a Horseman (HL), Babylon squared and WWE1+2 all in a row (B5, the Eps That Melt Your Brain), or HCL, or Sorority Boys, or all the stuff I've never seen (Mag7, Eroica, etc), or Probe, or even Buffy's Nightmares, Fear Itself, and Restless. And even if we could convince people to watch them, we couldn't then talk about The Quickening: What Does it Mean? or Aliens on the X-Files: The Fuck? or The Progression of Fear on Buffy: What Does it Mean That The Fear Xander Defeats in "Nightmares" Doesn't Recur on the Show? I mean, we can't get all snarky and debatey and critique right and left and puzzle out contradictions in canon an' all that.

So. Vaguely Fannish-Related Night for those in the SC Area. Anyone interested? What night should it be? Weekly or every other week? Where? At our (incredibly messy) place? Or somewhere with a real DVD player? antigone921, sineala, mlechan, and others (hey ryca, you interested?), let us know! We'll make cookies and garlic bread as appropriate.

I'm interested. I have nothing else to contribute, but I'll show up if possible. And I have a DVD player, so if you'd like to borrow it for these nights I could bring it over. Or something.

What night works best for you? Tuesday's right out. I could do pretty much any other day; Thursday's good. Or Friday. We could acknowledge that we have no lives and do Friday. ::g::

I'd prefer Thursdays; sometimes I do go home on Fridays.

(antigone921, who is here, says yes and she'd like Thursdays too, though she says she might have a class early Thursday evenings (6-7:45), but she assures me it won't be longer like her Tuesday classes.)
