BookExpo America
May. 4th, 2003 11:24 amI'm trying to decide whether or not to go to "BookExpo America" (it used to be the ABA, American Bookseller's Association, convention, but five or six years ago they decided that wasn't cool enough) this year. It used to be much more book-oriented; now they've added booths for sidelines and for book cafe food. Now, it's very big-business, and they don't give as much stuff away.
The trouble is, it's going to be a couple weeks before finals: May 30th, 31st, June 1st. I'll be done with some of my work by then, but still... I have a second thesis due the week of June 7th.
But, but! I can get a three-day pass for only $65! And authors signing their books include Laurie King! And Neil Gaiman! Signing Coraline! And Aaron McGruder signing the best of the Boondocks! And Sherman Alexie (again. I don't think he ever doesn't go). And Matt Groening! And Felice Picano, author of the Joy of Gay Sex -- doesn't everyone want an autographed copy of the Joy of Gay Sex? Also two Lambda Award winners. Also some fab-looking new authors. Also Ray Bradbury, if you like that sort of thing.
I have until May 16th to decide; that's when the discounted tickets go away.
P.S.: I'm not very big business -- I take requests. I try to snake books other people want, so if I decide to go, y'all should look at the author and free books schedules and tell me what you want.
