So many of my co-workers smoke too..I am always astounded by how many are inhaling that ol' nicotine. More than half the entire staff at least.
Your trip sounded dreadful-glad you managed it safely with no airplane/bus dilemmas.

Yeah, it wasn't much fun, but it worked out okay. :)
And, yes, I am always surprised by the number of smokers I know! You'd think people would have more sense. Here they say things like "well, I have to, it's so cheap"
