Me: "what? monkey? train station? where? who? huh?" Turns out the answer is wild monkey, Tokyo train station, thirty policemen. Right.

ETA: Okay, wait, maybe this is the best headline ever: "Britain's spy service seeking to hire gays." I particularly like the use of gay as a noun.

1. I know! Like, they could betray your country to evil supervillains, and you think "hmm, maybe we shouldn't pay them, they will never go work for people who want to blow up the planet with evil space ray guns just for the money."

I know. I actually went and looked at their posted pay scales. Their tech people get paid more than the intelligence officers. The security people who review the CCTV footage get paid more, depending on the length of their shift. I'd have thought you'd at least want to make your spies an offer that the evildoers wouldn't want to match. Maybe it's some sort of thing where you don't want to recruit the people who would do it because of the money, because they might want to, er, pursue other offers.

2. No! Crazy talk! Though I did particularly like the Time coverage (http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0,8599,1833896,00.html?imw=Y) of this article that frames the news in terms of (a) James Bond and (b) Polari. (My other favorite headline that showed up was "For Queens and Country.")
