I noticed some overlap between kink_bingo categories and cliche_bingo categories, and I thought it might be interesting to explore that overlap. So, I present here a list of kink_bingo categories that are also categories in cliche_bingo.

I may have missed some overlap in glancing over the list; if so, I'd be interested to know what they are.

Huh. Weirdly, I felt my hackles rise at "Threesomes and moresomes" being a cliché. Not sure why. Because it implies that "pairings" (for lack of a better word in this context) of more than two people aren't as valid as romantic constellations, maybe? I'm pretty sure the category-makers didn't intend any such implication, but, yeah, strong gut-reaction to that one. Possibly, I take my SGA OT4 too seriously. *g*

(This to be taken as a "Huh, so that's something new I learnt about myself" moment, and not in any way as criticism of the cliché bingo mods.)

It is interesting that there are so many possible overlaps.

Yes, I'm pretty sure twosomes are more of a cliche than threesomes and moresomes, if a cliche is defined as the predictable standard thing. Which is to say, I definitely see where you're coming from regarding the definition of threesome/moresome as a cliche. (And I also take your SGA OT4 too seriously! *g*)

I find the overlaps veeeery interesting, especially in consent play -- if you wanted to have a category that would require you to write noncon, you'd actually do better over at cliche_bingo than in kink_bingo!

I meant to come back and say this, and now your other post reminded me.

If there is a "threesome/moresome" cliché in fanfic it's the "two guys who are usually paired in their fandom meet a guy from another fandom, and they have a one-night stand" cliché. I'm fine with that aspect of it. But if you want to go deeper with your moresome, if you envision an OT3 or an OT4 (or 5 or 6 or...) as a viable, longterm, committed relationship, as True Love, if you will, then, a) I don't think that is a cliché in fandom, and, b) if you say that it is, while love between two people is not, then I would say that there is a value judgement inherent in that statement. (Again, I don't think the mods have reasoned that out or had bad intentions, but it comes out in a way that makes me uncomfortable. I'm not sure why it really bothers me, but, hey, it does. *smile*)

this is sooooo interesting. of course I have a whole self-indulgent, self-righteous rant about how often people who claim that kink is icky are kink writers at heart (you know this rant!) but I'll forego it here.

Don't the sex gods and goddesses also go under "worship"?

I was really surprised at some of the things considered cliches on the list - which just says something about me and the fic I read, I guess, since people are always being surprised at the things considered kinks on our list. :) But, hmmm.

I think it is very interesting as well; I don't really know what to think about it. Mostly it makes me go "hmmm."

Also, you make a good point about sex gods/goddesses -- I edited them in under worship.

Awesome! I signed up for cliche_bingo, and I was thinking of privately challenging myself to include a kink off the kink_bingo list in each story (assuming I don't hyperventilate and die when I actually try to write anything, which seems to be de rigeur). This will help!
