here are some things I wrote down

On December 26th last year, I wrote down what I wanted for yuletide this year. And that was:
Also I said that I wanted Eddie Izzard fic. "Eddie Izzard/Steve, on the moon." Per this email to myself, I contemplated Eddie Izzard/The President of Burundi. I am now thinking about asking for some sort of Eddie Izzard fic. I nominated it, anyway. And I wasn't even thinking about it three days ago! This is how I am with yuletide nominations -- I change my mind constantly.
All of which is to say, hurrah for yuletide nominations! I nominated fandoms a couple hours ago, but I totally just went back and changed them -- I realized that nobody had nominated Super Mario Galaxy. I hope someone asks for creepy Freudian Cosmic!Mario fic, or intriguingly kinky Star Bunny fic, or adorable Toad Brigade orgy fic.

thingswithwings and I baked a pumpkin pie a couple days ago. (Substitution: all whipping cream instead of half milk, 3/4 cup of honey for a single recipe). Last week, I made muffins! This means two things: first, that it's fall, and I'm happy to have the oven on; and second, that this is really our apartment now. Pie is the official inauguration of an apartment!
Also, it's really tasty pie. We made a recipe and a half, because that was the size of the pumpkin, so now we have pumpkin tartlets too. I totally had a slice of pumpkin pie for first breakfast yesterday. YUM.
(Between the pumpkin pie and the hum of the radiators, you can tell it's fall here. We just gave in and turned the heat on, but to be fair to us it was 58* inside before we caved. And it was COLD.)

Also I would like to rec
isagel's new Touching Evil vid, Wither and Die. I know next to nothing about the series, but I the vid is gorgeous and interesting and sort of heart-clenchy even without the context.
"Nominate yuletide challenge itself! database/dynamically generated yuletide treat request page enemies!fic!"... yes. Seriously. I was maaaaaybe a little yuletide!obsessed at the time.

Date: 2009-10-14 12:12 pm (UTC)The internet kicked me out last night, and then yuletide chat kept telling me I needed an invite to be let back in (huh?), which was sad, because I had just found ICA commercial links to give you. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=55038437814474FE The first two pages of that playlist are made up of just ICA commercials, and youtube has plenty more. Basically, it's a giant soap opera comedy about the people working in a fairly typical ICA store, told in tiny little weekly instalments, with that week's special offers featured prominently in the foreground. It's really, really silly, and also it's little snapshot of a miniature Sweden where everyone is something of a cliché or a caricature. Sometimes more or less famous people turn up to play themselves or guest star as a character. This thing has been going on for years and has featured a large cast of regular characters. Often they'll do an episode as a genre pastisch (horror movie, mafia movie, romantic comedy etc.), often with pitch perfect results. It's such a complete fandom, I'm a bit surprised no one has nominated it already. And I don't know why I'm saying all this when I have no intention of nominating it myself. OH YULETIDE!

Date: 2009-10-14 07:19 pm (UTC)I learned that you can PM someone in the room and ask to be let into the yt chat room if it inexplicably goes invite only.
ICA commercials clearly SHOULD be a yuletide fandom! It sounds like a perfect little yuletide fandom thing. :)

Date: 2009-10-14 09:00 pm (UTC)/msg (to private message someone -- you can also try /query, or /notice, which are other ways of pming people)
/me (to make an action with your name at the front -- so I'd type "/me is playing video games" to get a bolded message saying "eruthros is playing video games")
/nick (to change your nickname -- e.g. "/nick aaahyuletidemadness!" would print "eruthros is now aaaahyuletidemadness!"

Date: 2009-10-14 04:31 pm (UTC)Also, Eddie Izzard fic would be genius!
Also, pumpkin pie, nom! I love making pies, though I'm still searching for the perfect pie crust recipe.

Date: 2009-10-14 07:17 pm (UTC)I nominated Rosemary Kirstein, Eddie Izzard standup, Elfquest (it was my very first fandom, don't judge me!), Laurie Marks's Logic Books, Velvet Goldmine, and Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis. I might change my mind, because I am fickle, but those are all fandoms I'd be happy to read or write!

Date: 2009-10-14 07:27 pm (UTC)I promise not to judge you for your nominated fandoms -- yuletide is a place for early-fandom nostalgia! Plus I nominated the Pogo comics, so I have no room to talk.
Here is
Never Fail Pastry from Megan's Grandmother
0.5 lb lard (animal lard or vegetable shortening)
0.25 cup margarine
3 cups flour (white or whole wheat pastry flour)
1 tsp salt
0.5 cup cold water
Cream lard and margarine together, then add flour and salt and cream together until crumbly. Add water. Mix together until . . . completely mixed. Will resemble cookie dough. Put in waxed paper and put in fridge until firm – approximately 3 hours.
