X-Men and names
May. 13th, 2003 12:12 pmWhile talking about the X2 movie, I realized that I use different names for all of the X-Men. For example, I was discussing the possible slashiness of the ending, and I had to say "Scott/Wolverine" because I can't call Scott Cyclops and I can't call Wolverine Logan. (Or by his real name, which we haven't yet discovered in the movies. I'm not using it so that this is just spoilery for names, not for plot.)
People I call by given birth names:
Scott (Cyclops) -- I've always thought Cyclops was a really stupid name, especially since he isn't one.
Jean Grey, because first she was Marvel Girl, which is silly, and then there was this whole confusing too-many-people-named-Phoenix deal.
Bobby Drake. I never could think of him as Iceman.
Nate Grey. X-Man is too confusing in dialogue because it sounds too much like X-Men.
Kitty Pryde. She was Kitty before she was Shadowcat. Or Ariel. Or Sprite.
People I call by their "real names:"
Mystique. Raven Darkholme is a silly name and always made me picture Mary Sues.
Nightcrawler. Cool name.
Wolverine -- it's so appropriate. He'll bite your kneecaps off.
Gambit. I don't mind calling him Remy, but usually use Gambit.
Beast. Silly, but better than "Hank."
Rogue. She doesn't have a birth name in the comics, and Rogue's a really cool name.
