I was going to do another round of quotes from right-wing commentators -- and believe me, there are some real doozies on the National Review today -- but then I hit Savage Nation, and it depressed me so much I just couldn't deal with attempting to make a long post and all that.

I mean. He uses his "background" as an anthropologist to explain that "smallpox in a blanket" is too good for Arab nations.

I'm going to give you one further example from my background as an anthropologist just so that you -- I'm trying to put context on this because you can go crazy if you don't have the context on this, because I'm going to lead up to something of what we must do to these primitives. Because these primitives can only be treated in one way, and I don't think smallpox and a blanket is good enough incidentally. Just before -- I'm going to give you a little precursor to where I'm going. Smallpox in a blanket, which the U.S. Army gave to the Cherokee Indians on their long march to the West, was nothing compared to what I'd like to see done to these people, just so you understand that I'm not going to be too intellectual about my analysis here in terms of what I would recommend, what Doc Savage recommends as an antidote to this kind of poison coming out of the Middle East from these non-humans. -- Michael Savage, May 12.

A recurring problem I have with this asshat is that I keep getting him and Dan Savage mixed up. Then I accidentally tell friends to google for "this great article last week on gay sex by Michael Savage" and get some very annoyed calls later.

Me too, actually. People sometimes ask me how I feel about Dan Savage, and I say "oh, I hate that bastard!" and they look startled and say "um. well. okay. How about them Mets?" And later I realize that they meant the gay-sex Savage whose real name actually IS Savage, not the right-wing bastard Savage. Ooops.

When I see "Savage Nation" bumper stickers, it always takes me a moment to remember what they mean.

i kinda hate dan savage too, actually. for one thing, he's horrible about bisexual people - "those poser wannabe queers who are going to take our men/women and then go back to their heterosexual privilege." also, he's a jerk.

but of course i don't hate him like i hate michael savage (formerly weiner.)

Well, yes. I'm not so thrilled with Dan Savage either.

But if someone asked me what I thought of him, I wouldn't immediately snap "the man's a total asshole." I'd say "oh, I'm not a big fan because X, Y, and Z." I don't feel the need to bring supporting evidence about Michael Savage ne Weiner, but I do for Dan Savage.

If I could ever remember which one was which, that is. *g*
