I am obsessively tracking a Christmas package containing a present for my dad -- not because I'm worried that it will be late, but because I like to see where it goes. "Hey, it's in Idaho!" "Whoa, it just inexplicably turned around and made a loop around Chicago!" "It's in the Florida Keys!"

I wish more tracking-package websites had maps with little lines. That would be fun. Little red lines showing your package making said inexplicable side trip where it looped Chicago. Whee!

Or I wish I shipped more packages. Because it's just so much fun!

Package tracking: the adult equivalent of the cardboard box the present came in.

Sort of like how my laptop went from Taiwan to Alaska to Seattle, then to Chicago, back around to Portland, then Seattle again, then Issaquah, then here. One has to wonder what on earth is going on in Chicago that everything must go there, even when it makes a stop 13 miles from its ultimate destination first. ;)

Yes, exactly! It saddens me that I have never seen a package go scooting off quite so dramatically -- I had one end up in Ventura (SoCal) on an overnight-express trip between Oakland and Santa Cruz (which are 80 m apart). And I often see them circle Chicago for what seems like DAYS. But I've never had a package randomly scanned in Key West, or in Djibouti, or anything.
