Yay! New Punk Maneuverability Smallville story!

Curator of the Life & Death Museum

Punk Manueverability writes excellent Smallville, but unfortunately very little of it. (I prefer that to lots of crap, but it does make a new story an event.) She also wrote Interstitial and Freshman Orientation. Both of which really rock.

I'm on my laptop, which has next to no music on it. And I wanted to listen to some good lesbian (or lesbian-icon) music.

I suddenly realized that all I had to do was listen to Smallville songvids. Melissa Etheridge, Poe, the Indigo Girls -- I've never seen a fandom with quite this much emphasis on female singer-songwriters before. Sure, there are the standard "I made this songvid because I really like the song" things as well, but man.

All it needs now is some Rebecca Riots (probably too floofy to really make good SV vids, not that that has ever stopped anyone before, but I probably wouldn't download or keep them) and some Tori Amos and I'd have a playlist set. Weird.

A discussion of Smallville, wherein I use too many exclamation marks and get very pissy. Buffy will follow in a bit.

Smallville this week: pretty much Inca Mummy Girl meets The Witch. Now with Snyder-like principal.

I hafta ask: what's with all the sucking? We've had the heat-sucking, the fat-sucking (shared handily with that XF episode), the pituitary sucking (shared handily with that BtVS episode)... It lends itself to lots of jokes about other things to suck and so on, but could we buy a new villain, maybe?

Mmmm, Clark and Lex. Nummy.

I swear, we are getting handed the slash on a platter here. In my other fandoms, we had to slog six miles through the snow, uphill, both ways for scenes that we get nearly every frigging week on SV. Not that I'm complaining about the SV state of affairs, but sometimes I miss the more ... subtle touch you get when your characters have a less obviously slashy relationship.

On the other hand, Michael Rosenbaum. Eyefucks. Can't go wrong there.

Smallville lends itself to character vignettes, where shows like the Sentinel inspire more of the 300-K angst-o-ramas where Blair gets kidnapped and also amnesia and then sleeps with someone accidentally before finding out that there's a new Sentinel and then Jim gets protective and has sex with someone else and then there's a lot of misunderstanding and then they go "wait I love you" and resolve everything in two seconds before finally having 1-2-3-fingers-scissor anal sex while Not Being Gay.

I'd like to see someone try to make Lex be Not Gay, Just In Love With Clark. Just ain't happening. Bisexual - okay. Queer - sweet. Gay - rock on. Straight? I. Don't. Think. So.

Possibly, [livejournal.com profile] m_shell and I have concluded, this is one of the reasons we like Smallville. Although I wouldn't complain if there were more fun case-type stories with the appropriate people still really, really gay.

We can leave off the whole "We're Not Gay, We Just Love Each Other" style and also, as far as I'm concerned, any 300k stories involving So Much Angst They Should Be Institutionalized (tm).

I just did a quick read of [livejournal.com profile] m_shell's Dawn/Chloe story. She's hoping to post it tonight so as to at least post before being Jossed, even if it won't last.

It's so cute! Adorable femmeslash. I'm hoping she'll post it to ClarkLexFic and the Smallville Slash Archive since, you know, my girl's finally writing in a fandom that actually has a central archive. (I'm impressed by her determination, because I've never been able to get into a fandom that is based around ff.n. The pop-ups, the interface, the formatting -- oy. It all drives me crazy.)
