So, it's time for a round of assertions. These are the rules that I've just made up, and I'm backing them up with a gun that I ... borrowed from the national rifle association.
1. Form an assertion founded on "if." ("If X were a Y, it would be Z." "If X went to school, it would do Q.")
2. Back it up with some evidence. From youtube. You know. "Evidence."
3. Pass the buck.
4. Comment on other assertions.
Ready? Okay.
If John Sheppard were a lead singer, he'd totally be David Byrne running laps around the stage during the guitar breaks.
Look! See? There he is jumping up and down and doing awkward arm gestures and, not incidentally, singing "Life During Wartime."
I've proved my point. Your turn!

Date: 2007-11-25 12:12 am (UTC)this post has put me into a state of perpetual suspended questioning, for I now want to know who Rodney McKay would be, were he a lead singer. I want to see him as an aging punk rocker - or perhaps something in eighties heavy metal? power ballads? (RODNEY I LOVE YOU) but I still can't quite picture it. Maybe the reason that Trin's fic works so well is that John is meant to be a frontman - I can see John as Richard Hell, actually, speaking of punk rockers - and Rodney is meant to play lead guitar.
Unless they're Hard Core Logo, in which case Rodney is clearly Joe Dick and John is clearly Billy Talent; these things are true. But in all other cases, Rodney's on lead guitar. Which I guess makes him Robert Quine? Alternately, in my head, when Rodney's not being awesome in the seventies and eighties, he's tipping his hat with Sinatra and Dean Martin and Bobby Darin in the Copa.
Incidentally, if Rodney were a Canadian indie rocker, he'd be Danny Michel, who, when he plays solo gigs, builds songs by making extensive use of a looping machine, by playing his cell phone, by playing the piano with his feet, etc. AND, whether or not you buy Danny Michel = Rodney McKay, you WILL agree that this song is a 100% fluffy John/Rodney song:

Date: 2007-11-25 12:41 am (UTC)However! What about the young Rodney McKay? Poofy-hair, bad-shirts? I'm seeing something in this vein. (FYI: that is actually the first music video by that band that I've ever seen.)
I think of Rodney, if he were in music, as more one of those (as you say) Danny Michels -- the dude who plays 97 instruments, changes his sound regularly, writes weird-ass shit, etc.

Date: 2007-11-25 01:29 pm (UTC)I really dig Rodney singing falsetto for some reason, but I maintain that it is more hardcore than boybandness - c'mon, AC/DC! With all the weird vocal acrobatics, etc.
It really is a problem.

Rodney as Lead Singer?
Date: 2007-11-26 07:49 pm (UTC)Rodney would be a male Madonna! He would never share the stage with a mere band!
No, Rodney would tour with a different group of people every time he went out on the road. Any anybody who twisted a hip out of step would be fired.
