Lists are awesome

1. I hurt two fingers doing PT this morning -- the nominally-strong fingers I use to provide resistance for my isometric strengthening exercises. Yes, seriously.

2. I can't for the life of me find Torchwood promo pictures from seasons one and two, pre-Children of Earth. My google-fu has failed, hard. Where the hell are they? Help plz fandom!

3. I am looking forward to yuletide lots and lots, but I can't figure out what I want to ask for! Last year I had this huge giant list of fandoms that I wished were yuletide fandoms (sometimes just because I wished they could go in the vid), and it was hard to narrow it down further, and it is only worse this year, as I have now realized a) that Pogo isn't a yuletide fandom and b) that I totally ship Pogo Possom and Porky Pine. Porky takes Pogo a flower every Christmas morning! He's only pretending to be a cynic! My heart is touched.

Also I want there to be more Bruce/Johnny Dead Zone fic, so there's that. And perhaps I want Steerswoman series Bel-fic, in which she is awesome and amazing. And perhaps I will ask again for Better Than Chocolate transfic (Judy/Frances!), though I am always concerned about whether it would be done well.

Other things that are not yuletide fandoms but should be:
a) Le Petit Prince. Listen, it would be just adorable. Or totally wrong and awesome.

b) Mony Python OR Monty Python RPF! How is this missing?

c) A whole suite of childhood-ruining fandoms, including The Smurfs, My Little Pony, Wallace and Gromit, Asterix, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (which, okay, is technically a yuletide fandom, but only one story from like 2003, and it's Shredder gen, when obviously there should be some turtle OT4 going on)

d) I assumed that yuletide would be on top of everything Callum Keith Rennie and Don McKellar and Molly Parker and Sandra Oh were ever in! But I was wrong -- we wanted to put a bunch of Canadom scenes in the yuletide vid, and kept being tripped up when we realized that they weren't, in fact, yuletide fandoms. Like, Last Night and Da Vinci's Inquest, where are you? (Twitch City and Men With Brooms and Wilby Wonderful are yuletide fandoms, at least.)

e) And while we're on the subject of actors that I thought fandom would be totally on top of, Don Juan de Marco and Edward Scissorhands and Cry-Baby aren't yuletide fandoms, either.

f) Mathnet. You know you want it.

g) West Side Story! Moulin Rouge! Probably other musicals as WELL.

h) The Maltese Falcon!

i) The Motorcycle Diaries, which is a beautiful film, and is basically a road-trip movie in which the coming of age is also a political awakening and a cementing of how two friends love each other and also it's really pretty.

j) Speaking of road trip movies: Thelma and Louise! How is this not a yuletide fandom!

k) Charlie's Angels! Another femmeslash classic!

l) The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air! I don't know what people would write, but come on, it'd be awesome.

What do you guys want for yuletide? I ask because I'm curious, though it will inevitably lead to more things to add to my list of possibilities this year.

4. I maaaaaybe have spent a little too much time looking at the list of yuletide fandoms in the last, oh, year or so.

I second the Steerswoman Bel-fic!! I am sad at how little page-time she's had, what with her being such a great character and all.

The thing is, I would kind of like Bel/Rowan -- I do love femmeslash! -- except that I like Bel best of all, and really want to read about how she is awesome. I am torn!

I really don't see how Bel being awesome and Bel/Rowan are mutually exclusive! That's like saying peanut butter and chocolate can't go together! Though I'll admit I would really like to know what Bel was up to while she was away for most of Book 3... epic quest fic? I feel like Bel/Rowan is so obvious it's like canon, or... why isn't it canon, again?

Well, that's sort of what I meant -- if the focus of the story is on "Bel: she is awesome by herself," then it's harder to do Bel/Rowan.

Also, I don't know at all why Bel/Rowan isn't canon. I keep expecting it to be! Anytime now, I think, I will turn a page and find some Bel/Rowan. And then it's not there, and instead Rowan is having angst about men, and I am sad.

3. I also vote for Le Petit Prince and Monty Python, just for sheer hilarity, and also the oeuvre of Johnny Depp, musicals, and Thelma and Louise. What, you mean there hasn't already been My Little Pony fic? Fandom, falling down on the job! I'd vote for Fresh Prince and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to see what happened.

I haven't got my list yet but it'll probably contain Middleman, Psych, Dark is Rising, and Coyote Kings of the Space-Age Bachelor Pad.

It would make me happy just to know it was around:) And The Coyote Kings of the Space-Age Bachelor Pad is a fun first novel by Minister Faust, in which best friends Hamza and Yehat get caught up in the hunt for a mysterious macguffin. I like it because the characters and the language are great and if I find anyone who can recreate them, I will bow down.

Oh, whoops, that was me not being clear -- I meant that I could only find Children of Earth promos, and I was looking for promos from the first two seasons. I'm looking for promos and stills with Tosh in them :)

I'm still trying to make my list, and I can't think of anything other than my deep, deep desire to read Julius Caesar/Nicomedes IV of Bithynia Classical RPF, because apparently the entire frickin' world was convinced Caesar was sleeping with this guy, and I am really shocked, 'cause, you know, no one ever told me everyone at the time thought Caesar was gay. I think it requires fic! Except lysimache said she's not gonna volunteer for it, and I have no idea who else can write it for me.

Everything else I can think of I am worried I wouldn't like if I got it. Hmm. I hadn't thought of Twitch City, though. I think it is hard to write bad Twitch City fic.

Oh, man, you totally have to ask for Julius Caesar/Nicomedes IV of Bithynia slash! OBVIOUSLY. Even if you don't get it, at least you will have tried! And who knows, there're probably ten people who do yuletide who could write it for you -- when you have a population that big, surely there's someone who read some interesting classical texts :)

The Steerswoman series is by Rosemary Kirstein -- the first two books have been released in omnibus edition (The Steerswoman's Road, encompassing The Steerswoman and The Outskirter's Secret). The writing is not always great, but the characterization is awesome, and the world-building is amazing. Like, I love the world to pieces.

The basic premise: Steerswomen are knowledge-gatherers, and they wander around trying to figure things out, or they run archives, or they study math or whatever. And they always have to tell the truth, and answer any question; in return, any question they ask must be answered truthfully or people can be put under the steerswoman's ban, which means that they will never answer your questions. And a young, just out of training steerswoman (Rowan) starts asking questions about these jewels she sees in her travels, and then people start trying to kill her. And Bel is an outskirter who has a belt with the jewels in, and they become buddies, and travel together to figure things out, and Bel is amazing and awesome. You should totally check them out.

Last year I requested a Nochnoi Dozor story with Olga/Sveta by preference or just Olga Being Awesome All By Herself, and I got Olga Being Awesome All By Herself With Heavy Olga/Sveta f/f Subtext, which I thought was really perfect, so I think your Steerswoman request(s) will probably combine well.
